It's the return working of the 05:55 Leeds > Lancaster so I guess Neville Hill must have just thrown anything out this morning.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
I saw a 142 at Carlisle yesterday on the 15:21 to Middlesbrough. Would have liked a go but had to get home instead.

From a [passenger] railway POV it's a bit of a desert............

2x 153 on the 08:24 Lancaster > Leeds this morning. Never seen that before. 150s occasionally but almost always a 142 or 2-car 144.

I really like the Little North Western, it's underrated compared to its more well-known sibling!

The last time I used the line it was a 3-car 144 - which did seem a little excessive after Skipton. However, I've also had 142s and 150s.

Something the matter with Scunthorpe? <(

I've actually never been - although I've been going to go there and Barnetby for about 5 years now. Only problem with it is that for 100% Pacer-tastic action, you need to either use the same unit or wait an hour.

To be fair to Scunny, the same could be said of a few places suggested on this thread (Blackpool South, Colne, Chester, Morcambe...), but they've not had the same criticisms on here.

I don't think that's happened recently - all of the Exeter to Penzance services are booked for 150 operation (with a few exceptions - the 05:24 & 06:24 from Bristol Temple Meads are usually worked by a pair of 153s)

Although when that photo was taken, the 142 was probably substituting for a 37 (or even 50) plus LHCS.

I have been on pacers from Filton Abbey Wood to Bridgwater.

I have had pacers a LOT of last week from Merthyr Tydfil to Cadoxton and back.

I HATE these trains - they make 150s look like the worlds greatest trains!

Why would you WANT to travel long distance on these?

They are uncomfortable as hell. No placement trays at the back of seats, as well as pitiful legroom. I am ½" short of 6' and they kill me!

Roll on 2018 I say and I hope I never see one of these again, even though I know I shall!!!

because humans are all unique ;) just because you dont want to doesn't mean everyone doesn't. I don't like commuting on a pacer but apart from that i love them.

Becuase they're different to the normal units served up here in the Welsh Marches, and different is good. I could take your word for it that pacers are the most uncomfortable things out there and never experience them myself except on short local services, or I can give them a go and then agree with you.

I chose the latter. I now agree with you. But I still like the occasional (leisure) journey on them because they are so different to the sameishness (I know, not a word!) of the rolling stock I see normally.

Probably because they are some of the only rolling stock left that has character to them, and are not horrible things like Pendolinos or Voyagers.

144 + 153 combo on this morning's 08:24 Lancaster > Leeds. One of the good things about Northern is that it's very difficult to predict what will be working a lot of their services :)

The Huddersfield/Manchester/Brighouse > Leeds service has been a bit erratic lately. Normally 144s (3-car) all the way except the 06:48 Marsden > Leeds, 07:43 Leeds > Hudds, 08:31 Hudds > Leeds and 06:58 Manchester > Leeds (return working of 05:08 via Bradford) which are all 158s. I've had 158s turning up on other turns, 155s, 142s and 2-car 144s recently, not all of which helps towards my attempt to get 700 Pacer miles this year.

Dogbox + bouncy castle on the 13:49 Leeds-Morecambe today. Needless to say I'm in the bouncy bit (Long Preston to Carnforth via Lancaster, Morecambe and Bare Lane curve)

Pure bounciness on the 14:40 LPR-LDS, which I guess formed the 10.19 off Leeds.

Well as I'm on the FGW 142 farewell this Sunday, I'll be on a bus seat for about 7 hours, bring it on I say!
