Pacer line users

Anyone who complains about Pacers / buses being bouncy, do Altrincham-Navigation Rd on a tram. I'm sure two members of staff will back me up in saying that it is 10x worse than a Pacer or bus could ever be.

Depends on the track (and speed) for the pacer. Again, buses depend on the road surface, if it's full of potholes then it's often not pleasant, especially on the top deck of a double decker.

I've done that tram ride loads of times, as well as the metrolink before it was relaid (now that was fun!), and it's a sort of side-to-side motion. Not great, but it doesn't last all that long. The new M5000s seem to ride worse IMO.

None of it compares to moderate air turbulence though.

I'm sure that bus had solid tyres.

The recent announcement about extra trains for use on routes in the Northern franchaise area include even more Class 142 Pacer units to add to the existing fleet. How will this affect the question in this thread originally posed?

Would your journey have used any of the following? :-

Service 108...Macclesfield to Ashbourne
Service 442...Buxton to Ashbourne

Both of these use some very rural road sections...but are very scenic.

I've done Altrincham-Navigation Road on a tram numerous times and don't know what you're trying to get at. Even in the new M5000s that are really street running vehicles only Altrincham-Navigation Road isn't too bad, but around the Sale area the M5000s could probably cause sea sickness despite not actually being on water.

Altrincham-Navigation Road on a Pacer isn't good though and to make matters worse after leaving Navigation Road you've got 3 minutes of high pitched squealing to put up with as the Pacer navigates around Deansgate Junction and Skelton Junction.

As I have said, two members of staff will back me up on that, it was one of the old sets I think, but as it is the first time I have traversed the line on a tram, I couldn't tell you if it was a one-off or not.
