Hello,

I have just been offered a job on P-Way as a technician for NWR

1) how much of the work will be nights and what sort of times are the shifts?

2) will NWR put me through plant tickets or do they just use sub contractors for that?

3) does working the night shift come with an uplift.

Cheers.

Amazes me that people get this far along the recruitment with little to no knowledge about the role.

No offence to the op but do you not think you should be asking these questions from the company wanting to employ you rather than strangers on a forum?

I did ask about the night work but the awnser wasn't really clear.
I'm asking 'strangers on the Internet' to get a bit more information...it's not a good idea to ask about salary and pay at the interview stage.

Personally I disagree.
I ask all questions that I feel I need to know the answer to.
If an employer takes offence at me asking these questions I find it strange and untrustworthy on their part. I mean what do they have to hide.

We all work for a salary, and we all have lives outside of work so these are legitimate and valid questions.

But what’s done is done now, hopefully you can find some insight here before you take a job that doesn’t fit your needs or miss out on the job entirely.

I only made the comment I did because there is a remarkable amount of posts like this that appear on the forum, no offence intended to you directly.

You should absolutely ask about pay and other T's&C's at interview stage. I treat it as a two way process, its as much for me to see if i want to work for them as for them to see if they want me to work there. I've turned down more than one role after their answers to my questions were not what I expected.

Thanks all. If we can keep commentary to the OP's original 3 questions please now.

I get your point, just based on the research I've done

Would think between 4 and 9 week of nights in a 13 week roster midweek 22:00-6:00
And between 6 and 10 Saturday nights where the bigger jobs happen
That’s all depending on depot and access they have
They will put you through all the tickets you need
Uplift depends on contract no sure what the new one is think it’s 10% percent for weekends not sure on midweek

As a Technician it used to be, in my time 1990 - 2010 that TO's were trained up to carry out Stressing operations and look after Tamping machines, Checking on standards achieved. Unless there have been major changes since.
Other jobs may not need a TO in attendance so back to dayshifts in the office on paperwork. Method Statements, Survey work and design work are some tasks that need doing.
Weekend shifts as stated could mean Sat nights, but could also include Sunday day or Sun night.
Start times can vary, many is the time I had to be in a field at an access point at 03.30 on a Sunday morning or some other stupid o'clock time.
