That was incorrect. I suggest you write to complain. I'd normally say keep it concise but with Virgin you tend to get better results if you write a detailed, longer letter. Ask them what steps they will take to ensure their staff act correctly and impartially in future.

I'm happy to proof read.

They probably won't read the letter.

Shall definitely be sending that letter of complaint! Euston ticket office say I cannot use a paper day travelcard and a BZ6 ticket to travel to MK on their services. I can if I have a weekly or monthly travelcard, but not daily. Was told it is their policy. Of course, I had already waited in the queue for ages so didn't have time to debate at length but asked for receipt and wrote down name of staff member.

To double check, I presume I am fully in the right before putting pen to paper, as it were?

Love the mobile version of the forum btw, am typing this sat on the 13:43, waiting for it to leave. Nifty! :)

Yes, you are definitely in the right, a Day Travelcard + BZ6 ticket is valid on non-stop trains, and the route Any Permitted means it's valid on all operators on the route (in this case Virgin, LM and Southern).

One thing I find interesting about this split season ticket plan is how do the Gatwick Express employees deal with it? It was pointed out that there are no Oyster readers to access those platforms, so one would have to approach a member of Barrier staff, and if they do not have an Oyster checking device, then they may just have to believe what the passenger is saying and allow them in.
I doubt Gatwick Express employees would have Oyster checkers as most people using their service will be using paper tickets, hence the thought!

I got to put this to the test my first day travelling on the new tickets. I showed both the gold record card for the oyster season, and the paper season, and they let me straight through without question. :)

Now, I just need to remember that the Oyster will not operate the barriers at Brighton.
