I know that the daily price cap of £5.60 (off peak) is reduced to £3.70 if you have a National Railcard loaded onto your Oyster, but are the single fares also reduced?

According to this page:

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14414.aspx

Scroll to bottom of page and it says:

Railcard holders
Senior, 16-25, Disabled Persons, Annual Gold Card holders and HM Forces Railcard holders:
A third off the adult Off-peak Oyster single fare for most journeys
A third off the off-peak Daily price cap

However if you use the single fare finder on the TfL website for a zone 1 or zone 1-2 journey and specify 'National Railcard' it comes back with £1.80 which is the normal Oyster off peak single. I called Oyster Customer Service and they were unsure whether the Oyster singles were subject to a 34% discount. Suggestion was to check my balance after I've made a journey!

Reason I ask is that I'm new to Oyster and my next trip to London will involve just two single journeys in Zone 1. Will I pay £3.60 or £3.60 minus 34%?

Is the TfL website wrong?

Is the TfL website wrong?

On the underground - no discount
On national rail services - 33% discount

what about finsbury park to ealing broadway, or west ham to upminster etc?

is harrow on the hill to marylebone cheaper than to baker st?

is queens park to Euston square more than to Euston? does it make a difference if I went from kenton? and what if I did kenton to liverpool st using LM to Euston ?

gotta be anomalies there!

yes i seem to recall that this came up when oyster first came in on national rail.
If you have a railcard loaded onto your oyster it is often cheaper to make a tube journey followed by a few stops on national rail than just to make the tube journey without the national rail part.

In reply to Yorkie's point above, Harrow on the Hill to Marylebone is cheaper with a YP enabled Oyster when compared to Harrow/Baker St.

I assume that the discount is only ever going to be applied when the Oyster system can be sure that a NR service is used. Thus the tap in point has to be a NR only station or dual use but in both cases the tap out point will have to be NR only. Thus Kenton to Euston on LM would work because the tap out point is NR only.

For most practical purposes the discount is illusory because most journeys from the suburbs do not terminate at NR stations. If the YP Oyster owner continues from Marylebone/Euston to another LU destination he/she will be charged for another single journey so the discount will almost always be lost.

It shouldn't be. As long as touch out and touch in between the NR and LU gates occur within the time limit for the relevat OSI the journey will continue. You could always add Z1 underground to an NR journey so the discount should still apply.
