FCC have announced that as from Satuday 2nd January 2010 PAYG Oyster is vaild on all its routes within the zonal areas. The statement also said all other "south eastern operators" were on board.

There's been no formal announcement by SWT in regard to the acceptance of Oyster PAYG from 01.01.10.
So until such time as a formal announcement is made that it should be taken that the current situation stands in that Oyster PAYG is NOT ACCEPTED on any SWT service.
I'll have a look at the commercial stuff at depot on Monday to see if there's been an internal notice.

How does this work then? Are the price of the "turn up on the day" fares comparable with the "book the day before" fares?
Pretty sure there are no savings to be made with the London Zones in booking ahead- remember this is ONLY applicable to journeys wholly within the zones.
For those that know: Am I right in assuming that, as with other services (tube, bus, tram) where Oyster PAYG is accepted that the Oyster fare will be considerably cheaper than the cash (paper ticket) fare?
There are other advantages- the "capping" system means the maximum spend in any one day using Oyster is less than the cost of a paper Travelcard covering the times and areas you travel in- and you can get Railcard discounts applied to that cap.

Yes - A Zone 1&2 single is going from £1.60 to £1.80 and the cash fare from £4.00 to £4.50 from 2 January.
I think the cap is being removed from January, but you'll still get a railcard discount on paper Travelcards.
The One Day caps are here to stay, however they will be raised to match the Off Peak Day Travelcard prices. Railcard discounts will apply to individual off-peak fares from 2 January 2010; they will continue to apply to the off-peak One Day caps as well.

Sorry, yes. I should've said that the cap of Day Travelcard less 50p was being removed and the cap would just be at the Day Travelcard rate....
These are tube fares rather than national rail. (Although the £4.50 fare applies only for journeys from zone 1 to zones 5&6. Zone 1-4 remains at £4)
National rail fares on Oyster will be half the peak or off-peak cash return rounded down to the nearest 10p. So a zone 1-2 fare will be 2.10 peak and 1.70 off peak compared to a cash single of £2.40, an off-peak day return of £3.50 and anytime day return £4.30. However since a paper off-peak day return is valid in the evening peak period this wil often be cheaper than using oyster.

This is good for customers no more paying too much when you dont know what journeys or operators you were going to use at start of day
example use tube/bus in morining on PAYG and later finding you have to go to twickenham return later and then paying for paper ticket and thus leading to more cost than travelcard. downside though tfl are going to get less revenue now as before 50p discount was to encourage oyster use and tfl kept all revenue except small amout to operators using PAYG . Thats why NR Tocs took so long to do deal as they were worried about theyre own revenue as a result we have complex PAYG fares different fares if you use NR services but you will only be charged the highest fare if for travel epping to twickenham for example . But bonus to all operator will lower revenue fraud because touch in touch out scenarios stop people thinking about scams as in the end its not worthwhile. the persistent revenue dodgers will remain but there is a large number of average customers whot think about it this will stop them. so we will see if routings are correct as TFL had probelms with peoplw avoiding zone 1 by usin LOROL services but were charged through zone 1 now you have to touch on platform to confirm route prime example traveling via balham to morden not via zone may be cheged as via zone1 time will tell etc. but think good news for customers.
