Oyster & HS1

I'm sure this has been asked before, so apologies in advance; but is Oyster PAYG valid on HS1 between Stratford and St Pancras, if for argument's sake you were coming in on the Central Line from further East and wanted to avoid a tube interchange?

No, it's not part of the zonal system so no Oyster and no Travelcards (except those that have line-of-route validity from outside London).

You can of course go LO stratford-highbury and then victoria line to KX SP (check routeing guide if you were planning to use a ticket other than oyster payg or a travelcard for this though).

One of these day, train services between Stratford International and London St Pancras will be included within the Oyster and Travelcard zonal system.

There's nothing physically or technically stopping these service from being included.

...I mean, the TVM at Stratford International I used last (think it's entrance number 2, by the food court at Westfield) had an Oyster reader on... forward thinking or just moved from another London station? :P

Stratford International (used so much for international services) is in a magical alternative dimension where it sits way outside the boundary of zone 6, or even zone 9.

If every ticket sold for the Olympics includes a Travelcard, will that be valid on HS1 or will SET be standing there selling HS1 supplements to everyone that assumes their Travelcard covers everything in the zonal system (Heathrow excepted)?

I am guessing the latter, so nice easy money and what SET has presumably been waiting for, especially if GA falls to bits during the Olympics and it becomes one of the only ways to get to Stratford (let's face it, the Central Line will be rammed beyond belief).

There is a special Games Travelcard that is apparently not valid on 4 departures per hour from Tottenham Hale to Liverpool Street (but is totally unenforceable) but will be valid on HS1. ITYF it was the DfT wanting more money.

Keeping HS1 outside the travelcard system was written into the 'Integrated Kent Franchise' specification, long before the franchise started, or the trains ever entered service.

Surely if Travelcards WERE acceptable on HS1 to Stratford International, Southeastern would get a share of the Travelcard revenue which would be a lot more than they get by carrying empty seats and a very small number of people who pay for HS1 tickets STP-SFA?
