Oyster Gold Card Discounts

Hello all, through my employer I get an annual 'Gold Record Card' Oyster Zones 1-6. I recently learned that apparently this should enable me to 1/3 off the price of tickets for train travel outside of London, for both myself and up to 3 adults travelling with me. Does anyone know if this is true?

If so, I'm due to go to Marlow next Saturday with my girlfriend. We would use our Oyster cards to get to Paddington, and then buy return day tickets from Paddington to Marlow. National Rail is saying these are £16.90 each, so with the discount applied I should be able to get them for £11.27 a piece.

Providing this is a real benefit I would assume I just present myself and the Gold Card at a ticket booth and go from there?

Any input would be much appreciated.

Correct, except that the discount is technically 34% and then rounded up to the next penny, then to the nearest 5p, giving £11.15. But you don't actually need to buy from Paddington as your Travelcard is valid right up to the boundary of zone 6. You only need a day return from the Boundary of Zone 6 to Marlow, i.e. this fare here: http://www.brfares.com/#!fares?orig=0072&dest=MLW&rlc=NGC - £6.25 each with the Gold Card discount. You can buy that from the ticket office at Paddington; some of the ticket vending machines may sell it also.

You can also get 1/3 discount (for yourself) for off-peak journeys on Oyster outside your zones - ask tube station staff to add it to the Oyster card if it's not already loaded.

Unless both the OP and girlfriend have gold cards, the girlfriend will need a ticket for the whole journey, the OP only for Boundary Zone to Marlow (rest covered by your season)

Also if your girlfriend's Oyster has another suitable Travelcard covering zones 1- 6, she could use the BZ ticket.

14.2 If you are using a Season Ticket, daily Zonal Ticket, or another area based Ticket such as a concessionary pass, ranger or rover in conjunction with another Ticket and the last station at which one Ticket is valid and the first station that the other Ticket is valid are the same, then the train does not need to call at that station for your combination to be valid.

I'd forgotten about the zone 6 boundary thingy so as suggested will just get myself a a return to Marlow from there and the better half one from Paddington.

A 'through' ticket from your starting station to Marlow might be cheaper for your girlfriend, rather than a combination of PAYG to Paddington and a paper ticket from there.
