Need a little help as fares are not my strong point (not having bought a ticket in 20 years). I've searched the forum and the (excellent) forum fares guide but still have a couple of questions.
My brother in law has an Annual Travelcard, Zones 1-W, bought a couple of months ago; he lives in North London and works in Watford. He is moving jobs, and from next month only needs a Zone 1-3 travelcard.
From my reading of the TfL refunds page, he will have to cancel his current travelcard (getting a chunky refund of I guess around £2000), and then buy a whole new annual travelcard for zones 1-3, presumably for £1424.
1) Is this right?
2) Will he need to fill a form in? The TfL refunds page suggests so, but the form itself states "This form only needs to be completed where the rate of the new ticket required is of higher value than that of the current ticket" which won't be the case.
3) Is the refund calculated in the same way as on NR, i.e. value deducted is that which would have been required to purchase tickets for the period so far used? What allowance is made for part months or weeks?
And
4) can it be done at any tube ticket office?
