I'm off to London next week, and have an Oyster but haven't actually loaded my railcard onto it yet. How long should this take to do at the station?

TIA.

As long as you get someone who knows what they are doing, about 30 seconds. Take it to a tube station rather than NR. The instructions in this post might help if you have difficulty (changing gold card to yp card of course).

Thanks for that, will take a copy. Will be doing it most likely at Kings Cross Underground, so I'm guessing they should have some prior knowledge of doing it.

I've had a YP railcard added to my Oyster card at the ticket office nearest St Pancras and not had any issues, so I assume at the one nearest Kings Cross you shouldn't have any either.

Should be the same one then, which is good news.

The instructions are identical other than changing Gold to YP, however certain ticket offices insist that the card be registered beforehand - (officially it's supposed to be, but physically it's not necessary).

I remember trying to get my TfL Bus + Tram discount photocard added to my Oyster card at a certain South London tube station, the ticket clerk said I had to fill in a form. It was already registered and he refused to do it unless I filled it in. In the end, I went to a Central London station where they did it in less than 30 seconds with no fuss.

Don't know about the LU TOMs, but FasTIS+ (which is basically an extended version of same for NR ticketing) won't let you add a discount to an unregistered Oyster.

Having said that, all you need to do is enter a "Photocard" number (which should be the Railcard number) and password. The "Off Card" details aren't necessary.

Cheers,

Barry

Also on Fastis+ there's only the option to add "NR Railcard" and not individual types. There are around half a dozen other discounts on there too but they require special stock, with the exception of Priv. It surprises me how many safeguarded staff aren't aware of how easy it is to get the discount loaded onto their cards.

The LU TOM's are the same as that, most enter the station NLC when adding gold cards etc, or the YP photocard for 16-25.
As you said, Off card details aren't essential.
