Oxford Mail contributor comments regarding the Nuneham Viaduct closure

The ground is obviously pretty dodgy because the 1850 bridge (which was built using cast iron screw-piles) kept sinking! There are gravel pits nearby as well.

I see some of the Oxford Mail comments are stating:

Not a surprise. Time to build a new 4-track bridge, ready for major infrastructure improvements. Ideally the County Council could make substantial contribution to allow a cycle and pedestrian bridge to be built as part of the new rail bridge construction too linking footpaths south of the Thames with the Thames Path.

Indeed, another 4 track bridge could be built over the thames near Appleford as part of the H1S1 Road improvements between Didcot and Golden Ballls

I've seen comments on social media about adding on a cycle/pedestrian bridge "when it is rebuilt" (!) as well. Despite the relevant issues around costs, practicalities, etc., for bikes it doesn't help a lot in providing a route from Culham to Oxford (which is the obvious benefit) unless they also put a brand new path to Radley parallel to the railway...

I've seen OM comments before about reopening the old Abingdon branch as a tram style service for the proposed Oxford Metro plans.

The comments in the OM are generally nothing more than people getting out their crayons without considering funding and the likely lack of it.
