Oxford-Chichester splits, off-peak day return

Can anyone suggest any possible splits for Oxford (OR Didcot)-Chichester, going out in the morning of Saturday 11th Feb (to arrive at Chichester by 1pm latest), coming back from Chichester sometime in the evening - let's say after 6pm?
I have a gold card, and would prefer to avoid advance tickets (not sure they offer a saving here on a return journey, anyway)


I've already found (quite unsurprisingly, given XC's reputation...) that splitting at Basingstoke saves a bit of money, but is there anywhere else worth considering?

oxford - chichester off peak day return with your gold card costs £26.05 route not via London gives you a choice of four routes :

Oxford - Reading - Southampton - Chichester

Reading - Basingstoke - Fareham - Chichester

Reading - Guildford - Havant - Chichester

Guildford - Redhill - Gatwick - Horsham - Chichester

Splitting at Basingstoke and thus reducing to that Route will cost :

Oxford - Basingstoke Off Peak Day Return £7.40 Not London

Basingstoke - Chichester Off Peak Day Return £14.25 Not London

Thanks. I suppose I should have said I have an Oxford-Didcot Gold Card, as some, but not all fares, are cheaper from Didcot.

I think Didcot-Basingstoke (not London) and Basingstoke-Chichester (not London) is the cheapest I can find (£5.50 + £14.25) = £19.75

Followed by Didcot - Chichester (not London) = £22.75 - which NRE also show as being valid via Reading and Clapham Junction

Followed by Didcot - Redhill (not London) and Redhill - Chichester = £13.20 + £9.90 = £23.10 -- although in fact I see that is superfluous as the £22.75 ticket will cover it

I'll have a look at other splits from the places you suggest.

If you want to go via the Guildford-Havant route, you can split at Blackwater:
CDR Didcot - Blackwater £5.50
CDR Blackwater - Chichester £14.20

Total £19.70 - a new winner by 5p
