Anybody know what failed & why to cause such chaos & delays up to 180 minutes today? NRES just states 'due to a broken down train'.

Call from Virgin Trains control reporting driver investing flames coming from the rear bogie of 221142 working 1M54.

Should be all clear now.

Starting to recover although some hiddeous delays have resulted. Got a call from a mate at 11.50 asking the next Crewe-Euston. Gave him the bad news that the 11.29 (19 late) was just leaving & the 11.56 was cancelled so it will have to be the 12.29 (delayed-no estimate). He rung back to say a passing Pendo was given a SSO & he was now en-route at 13.02. Turned out to be the 06.30 ex-GLC running some 190 minutes late. Later told me that the on-board staff had been excellent & even those who had endured nearly 8hrs travelling said it was better than spending the night at an airport & where just grateful to get to London.

WCML is farce, but not as bad as ECML! All trains are running via the Slows up the Trent Valley (why oh why?), my return journey from Liverpool yesterday evening was 2 hours late into Watford, after being shafted at Stafford. The previous two Liverpool workings were cancelled, it was a cosy experience!

Some Anglo-Scottish Pendos are now running with delays of under an hour. With the UKs transport disruption so far this week, i would imagine most passengers to be happy & to consider this on time or even early.
