Because of the change to class 350s from class 185s, TPE has extended to 1745 Lancaster to Manchester Airport to start from Oxenholme to start at 1731 (Mon-Fri). It arrives at platform 2 and departs from platform 1. It has a long wait at Oxenholme. It cannot use the Windermere platform 3 since it is not electrified. Nor does it use the Oxenholme sidings. Instead it seems to travel to Tebay to wait and crossover. Perhaps the track and signalling at Oxenholme leaves no alternative. Anyone knows? .

Presume its a signalling issue. The trackwork is there to do it otherwise.

ie Southbound off the Windermere line first joins the down main, then crosses onto the up main.

Trains have run south off platform 2 during engineering works.

Maybe having it turn back on the main line or to/from Oxenholme sidings conflicts with something passing through?

Would need to look at some signalling plans but there may not be a shunt signal allowing travel back into 1 from the crossover. It is probably capacity as well as you would be sitting on the up line whilst changing ends, doesn't cause an issue within Tebay.

The train can't start back from platform 2 at Oxenholme because there is no main aspect to start the train from (passenger trains can't be started from shunting signal). To access the Up Goods loop at Oxenholme would require a double shunt move from Platform 2 to a shunt signal on the Up Main and then back into the loop as there is no direct access to the Up Goods loop nor is there access from the Down Goods loop direct to platform 1. Obviously a move like this takes time and clogs up the main lines so sending the train to Tebay during its long layover is the preferable move.

Confirms my thought on not being able to get back into 1. Plans afoot for a bit of re-modelling at Oxenholme anyway, moving the down to up crossover back towards the station and some other little bits.

Just for completeness, my earlier diagram only shows signals in the UP direction, this attachment shows the DOWN direction signals.
