Overtime rates

Hi, new member so apologies if this has been discussed before.

Been accepted to attend a SWT assessment day for the position of a RO2 RDR (I don't know what that stands for!) Station Assistant.

Various places mention wage and London allowance, haven't found mention of overtime / weekend / nights / bank holiday rates. Is this still at a standard rate or are higher rates paid for some or al of these.

I have a current job which the wage is greatly increased by overtime but this is at the standard hourly rate, so a lot of hours have to be worked to make it worth while.

Also I have been sent some example assessment questions, is there other examples available on the internet?

Not just 'as the new boy', this would be permanent. You will hopefully get paid a higher basic rate (or an allowance for working a relief clerk role) but you will not really know what your roster is or what station you will be working at until the week before probably, whereas in a lot of railway jobs you can work out your roster months in advance!

That's confusing RDR for GPR.

RDR you will have a fairly decent idea in advance what you'll cover as you'll cover the fixed RD pattern of other people. It's GPRs (general purpose relief) that will be as you describe

RDR covers the days off of the others on your roster lines.

Example 4-5 lines, whoever is off you'd normally be working that shift / location.

GPR is various locations & shifts sometimes short term.

I done GPR work for years. Loved it, better than being stuck in one place all the time, nice variation & seeing loads of different staff / punters.

I knew every cafe from Bedford to Kentish Town

OT is usually x 1.5 hours contracted for that shift.

For example 12.00-20.00 (8 hours = paid for 12)

Normally get an enhanced rate too for unsociable hours, very early starts or late finishes. You'd have to ask about that.

Guildford will be your 'home' station and it will be linked to a couple of stations nearby as you mentioned.

Example. 5 on 3 off

Mrs A is off on Tuesday -Thurs, you cover it.

Mr B is off Friday - Sunday. You'd likely cover Friday & Saturday. Then it's your days off. Goes round in a cycle.

There will be more than one RDR.

Annual leave, sickness is normally picked up the GPR or RDR. Filling gaps basically.

Only thing now is having read another thread is how long people have to wait for interviews. I think they only occur when actual positions become available.

I'm not sure on the specific, but RO2's at South West Trains get paid enhancements for pretty much everything! You can bump on the basic pay quite nicely and quite easily.

They only advertise for RO2 when there is a job available.
I used to be an RO2 at SWT, the enhancements really bump up the wages.
overtime for rest day working is time + 1/2 (sunday time + 3/4)
saturday is time + 1/4
sunday time + 3/4
after 22.00 time + 1/3
bank holiday is double time + day off in lieu
you also get mileage allowance from your home station + possible meal allowance for longer shifts.
london allowance is about £500 - £700 per year.
the stuff they send you for the assessment is all you will need, just practice cutting out the waffle from the questions and focusing on what they actually want.

RO2 is Rail Operator, the 2 being one ring above an RO1. I think the next step after RO2 is RO2(S) the S standing for supervisor or supervisory.

CO2 is a Clerical Officer which is usually the ticket office staff, but the CO1 to CO5 grades are usually all the admin offices/ticket offices staff. After CO5 is management, MS1 being the first.

Although still used, many of these grade titles are historical and have been re-badged into more user friendly job titles such as station assistant etc.

Those rates are a bit like the old BR enhancements, long since signed away for Network Rail staff

Still on almost very similar terms as a CO2 where I am.

We have a RDR as there's an odd shift pattern where people on the rota are off on the same days every week. Seems to work ok.

Same plus I get £29.82 for a 04.45 start

£22.36 for any start before 06.15 and £30.21 for night turns.

Soon tots up over a year.
