Looking on the LNER site, it says that the 08:13 service from York is overtaken but I can’t find where it is overtaken and by which service. Anyone know?

The 0822 Grand Central service is schedule to arrive in Kings Cross 1014 versus the 0813 which is scheduled to arrive at 1022. It would seem the overtaking happens between Grantham and Peterborough as the LNER is routed onto the slow line at Stoke Junction returning to the fast lines at Tallington whilst the GC remains on the fast throughout that section.

The 0813 LNER off York (ex-Middlesborough) is overtaken by the Grand Central from Sunderland which departs York at 0822.

The GC is scheduled to arrive at London KX at 1014, the LNER at 1022.

Ie the journey planner is essentially trying to point out that a slightly later service arrives in London before the 0813 does.

The Middlesbrough train runs slow line at Stoke Junction, South of Grantham, to allow the Grand Central train to pass.

There's also a Grand Central service (0954 ex Sunderland) that is routed on to the up slow at Stoke Junction to allow an LNER service to overtake.

Both this one and the Middlesbrough are recent additions the timetable and have paths that fit around available capacity rather than optimal ones.

Both services currently switch back to the up fast at Tallington as the up slow is temporarily unavailable from Tallington to New England. Prior to the temporary closure of the up slow it wasn't unusual for either service to continue to either Spittal Junction or Fletton Junction before crossing back over to the fast line.

Why is the Up Slow unavailable?
