Anyone know what happened here? Was passing through Carlisle on a work trip to West Cumbria and saw trains were only running to Haltwhistle, where buses were then running to Hexham.

Must've been some major failure as looking at Twitter, buses were still in operation a couple of hours ago?

"@northernrailorg: UPDATE - Buses are replacing trains between #Haltwhistle and #Hexham due to overrunning engineering work on the line."

Anyone know what's occurred?

On a train...somewhere!
A track renewals job fell foul of multiple machine failures, the overrun was well into yesterday morning and it was then discovered that no tamper crews were available until overnight.

Down Line handed back for one NT service to run Carlisle - Newcastle to balance units, otherwise the line remain closed until this morning when it was handed back at the planned speed.

Sounds a bit of a nightmare job then!

Who was the contractor?
