Overnight TPE Blackpool services prior to 185's

Why did TPE hire units from Northern to work overnight Blackpool-Manchester's instead of 175s? I think even when 185s joined the scene TPE still hired Northern stock for certain services for a while. Hasn't happened for a while though.

A long time back but does anyone know any late night or early morning Airport-Blackpool/vice versa times that were booked as a 175 turn if any?
