In editor is it possible to add overhead wires to existing track which have none already?

Yes.
Use the select tool and select the track you want to put OHLE on. After you've selected it then in the right hand flyout menu (top right) you change between None, OHLE, Third Rail, Fourth Rail, etc. Simply select OHLE and it's done. Gantries however need to be added separately.
I'm sure someone else can explain it simpler terms, I only use the editor every day

Okay that has worked, however it hasn't worked on track which is either yard, and/or offset from other track or a platform, assuming one or both of those is the reason I hadn't worked out the solution earlier.
