Time for the crayons!

Well with a few lunchtimes minutes spare I got the crayons out and compare Option A with the WCML proposal.

The basic map is Option A with the HS2 proposed XR to WCML superimposed (rather crudely) in green. It seems to me that they'd be compatible proposals if they were planned and built together.

I'd imagine that the XR/WCML link would drop down and pass under the NLL. This would easily mesh with the loop coming in after crossing the GWML as that'd be descending down to the NLL height.

The only other clash would the "Sub-surface pedestrian link to Victoria Road". Some careful consideration of vertical heights and clearances would need to be made but it is only a walkway and that's not hard or expensive to adjust!
Of note is that with the smallest of alignment tweaks you could still maintain a link from the XR/WCML link onto the current route up towards Greenford. OK, it'd be a simple link for occasional work rather than for any form of intensive service.
