Saturday morning I travelled from Blackwater to Farnham, departing on the 11:25.

Firstly, SWT, who control the fare for this journey, have imposed their Off Peak/Weekend Super Off Peak fares to this route.

Off Peak Day Return: £6.20
Weekend Super Off Peak Day Return (valid after 11:00): £5.20

I thought SWT had only received dispensation to do this for itineriaries heading towards Waterloo?

Secondly, the TVM at Blackwater only showed the Off Peak fare (I used the machine at 11:15). Is this down to incorrect fare info being provided by SWT, or GWR not programming the TVM correctly? Either way, to overcharge in this way is not acceptable.

As these fares are not regulated fares, they can do whatever they like :(

Was there a notice on the TVM informing people requiring the full range of fares to use the ticket office (if open/applicable) or, if not, on board the train? If not, it's a clear breach of consumer law and should be reported.

You are entitled to a refund of the difference in fares, from the retailer who operated the TVM in question.

That was definitely the case when weekday super off-peaks were brought in, but it hasn't been for the weekend ones. They appear almost everywhere, in whatever direction...

It’s a programming thing. My mate lives in Bitterne and the weekend super off peak fares didn’t appear on the TVMs there for months after they were brought in. He never had issues getting them from the guard.

The Scheidt & Bachmann machines at Reading still don't sell SWT Super Off-Peak fares either. Definitely a GWR problem.
