Currently working as a service Technician in the drinks industry, before that Maintenance engineer in Production engineering long time ago,
At 57 what are the chance of getting into the rail industry, either a a trainee driver,or customer service role.or mechanical role.
Just had an assessment for senior conductor, but was not successful this time, did not get to interview stage,
My CV must be ok,any advice.or at 57,are we not worth the investment,
which we will never no.
but i think i will give it another go in 6 months time when i can re apply.8-)

TOCs genuinely do take on candidates of all ages. I've known people come onto the railway off the streets with just a few yrs to retirement. So don't give up, if it's something you're interested in then keep trying mate.

Your feelings are understandable, but getting to the testing stage in itself is an achievement. Any idea which part you failed on?

I know of Two Guards who came on in the mid 50s a couple of years back, age isn't an issue, what did you do wrong at assesment?

Hi there,

The usual rule of thumb is if a TOC can get 5 years from a driver they will take them on, I took on a driver at 57 and there was stiff cometition with the younger applicants

As others have said. Don't give up. I've known of a couple of drivers taken on in their 50's and of a gateline assistant be taken on in their 60's.
