Outward journey on any time returns

The terms and conditions on NRE website at
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/anytime_conditions.html
say
"The outward part of Anytime Return ticket are valid for travel on any train witihin five days of the date shown on your ticket. Break of journey for an overnight stay is allowed. Where a journey continues into the next day, travel must resume before 1200 and no further break of journey is allowed except to change trains."

Does this mean that it is
a) "valid on any train withinr five days of the date shown on your ticket" - therefore multiple overnight breaks of journey can be made or a three/four day break of journey made at one station.
or
b)"Where a journey continues into the next day, travel must resume before 1200 and no further break of journey is allowed except to change trains" -
You can only break the journey once overnight and only for one night.

It is a little ambiguous but my interpratation is that no break of journey is permitted exceptwhere the journey is sufficiently long to require an overnight stay and in such cases travel must restart by 1200 the following day.

The '1200 the following day' seems quite unenforcable on a ticket with five days validity.
