Hi all,

On Friday 27th September/Saturday 28th September I am wanting to make the following journeys

Friday afternoon Birmingham - Haddenham and Thame parkway
Saturday am Haddenham and Thame parkway - Gillingham
Saturday PM Gillingham- Birmingham

What can I do to get the best ticket options? Want to be flexible around times so ideally looking at returns/singles as opposed to advances.

Thanks

Curtly

@curtly. Which Gillingham station are you travelling to? The one in Kent or the one in Dorset? And, on your return journey, do you want to return on a train that calls at Haddenham and Thame Parkway as on the outward leg?

Outward break of journey is permitted for Anytime Singles, which are valid for two days, and Anytime Returns, for which the outward portion is valid for five days. On other period return tickets overnight break of journey is usually permitted on the outward leg but the wording around this is not favourable:
Overnight break of journey - if the journey cannot be completed on the same day, the ticket may be used to continue the journey on the following day.
Whilst you could try and use this, any travel on the second day is unlikely to free of difficulties resulting from using the ticket on a day when it is not normally valid. I would therefore advise against trying to take advantage of this.

I suspect some sort of split is going to be the best bet for this one. It might be worth putting the three legs into Trainsplit to see if Advances are the best way, as they are single fare priced, otherwise splitting at Haddenham (and ensuring the train back stops there) may be cheapest.

If the OP is travelling to the Gillingham in Kent, how about an Advance Single or Super Off Peak Single from Birmingham to Haddenham and Thame Parkway on the Friday, and then starting short the following morning, using a Super Off Peak Return (route "via High Wycombe"), from Birmingham Stns to Gillingham (Kent)?

It might be slightly cheaper to split tickets at Haddenham using a Super Off Peak return from Birmingham and an Off Peak Day Return from Haddenham to Gillingham but there may not be much in it.

Hi,
Yes it is Gillingham in Kent.

An advance single to Haddenham is 12
Haddenham to London is 20
London Gillingham return 21
London birmingham is 20 with west midlands trains only

Is there a better way to do this?

I am not looking to get off at Haddenham on the return journey going straight to Birmingham.
