Hello, I'm a Police officer and Afghan veteran which seem a good starter for 10 for the rail industry. I have an OPC pass and have just secured an interview for OTM trainee driver with COLAS rail?
Tips for interview, I anticipate going through examples for competencies covered in the OPC interview?
-Knowledge of COLAS & values?
-some research on driver / operator / tower / maintainer roles?
emphasise safety and adherence to procedure. Any other areas please?

Plus, any steer on how OTM stacks up against freight and passenger work please?

Otm work is more varied than just driving passengers or freight. You’ll more than likely be operating Tampers and a variety of them. So you’ll learn a skill and a lot about the track. It’s an in demand skill, so will open up work abroad if you ever fancy that again. Operator is operating the tamping banks, tower is the computer system you learn to help the operation. You’ll work with a variety of people and different areas too. Doing maintenance work and working on re-rails at construction sites. Maintainer is maintaining the machine, like a basic service and functional testing or helping the fitters(mechanics) with their work.

It’s a good introduction to the railway and driving. You’ll do way more driving moves on the railway, than you’d ever do on passengers and freight. Which is a great experience for if you ever decided to change to freight or passenger in the future.

Hey Derek, in terms of my interview prep in question, am I on the money? Will that cover it? My police colleague said managers interview pretty relaxed compared to OPC interview.

Interview was good but I've still not heard back.

I would say use the star method to answer. Questions were mainly scenario based to give examples relating to safety, security, teamwork, what you know about the company.

Still not heard back

I've got assessments for TFL Underground Train Operator in a couple of weeks. If I'm successful with TFL I'm going to cancel all my Railway applications. I've had enough of waiting around while nothing happens in the Railway.

Hello, yes I applied for the OTM side. I had my interview last month, a week or so ago I was told I'd passed the DMI and today I've received an invite to the psychometrics. This was for the South East side of things though.
