I've just been driving home through Farrington (near Preston) and I noticed that the Ormskirk line has had very tall and very bright floodlighting placed along the line. The lights are roughly every 20 metres. It was very odd to see the line lit up in this manner, especially given that it doesn't have any late services. Is this likely to be a permanent feature, or just down to some engineering work?

AFAIK it was closed yesterday and is obviously closed today (as with all Sundays) so perhaps it could be in connection with some 48 hour possession that entails non-stop engineering work? Don't know what they're up to mind so my assumption may be incorrect

It must surely be down to overnight engineering work?

Sounds like engineering work. My local line has been closed every Sunday for the past few weeks and having driven past during the possessions, there are floodlights literally everywhere!

The line was shut all day yesterday for engineering works - replacement buses in operation
