Origin station and railcards

Can you buy, say a ticket from Paddington to Reading for a friend with your network railcard while you purchase a discounted ticket from boundary zone 6.
I thought both tickets had to be purchased from the same origin station?

The transaction you mentioned is valid if and only if you already hold a zone 1-6 Travelcard.

so if say network ticket holder wants a boundary zone 6 ticket but they have a friend who needs a ticket from Paddington. There is no exclusion from using a network card to purchase the Paddington ticket even though the holder of the network card is not buying it from the same starting point as their friend?

Whilst there is nothing 'in the public domain' AFAIK, there is in the iKB (formerly 'The Manual'). The origin and destination "should" be the same and the ticket type "should normally" be the same. This is the same for Family and Friends, Disabled and Two Together Railcards.

However, some staff seem to know as much about iKB as they do the Routeing Guide and others don't seem to care, so YMMV.

Cheers Hairy I thought so but sadly LUL staff do not have access to the "new" iKB unlike the old manual.

The only requirement per the T&Cs is that all additional passengers must travel with the railcard holder (plus, of course, all passengers must have ticket(s) which cover their whole journey). During the week the minimum fare would mean the Railcard holder would not get a discount on the BZ6-Reading part anyway.

I'm not sure whether you're asking to know whether you can do this, or whether you can justify refusing to sell these tickets together (do you work in a LU ticket office?).
