Options for working in sustainable transport

I'm looking to work for a transport related organisation in their sustainability department. I did a Masters in Responsible Tourism Management with my dissertation on Cultural and Economic Impacts of Heritage Railways on local communities (basically how do preserved/heritage railways benefit the towns they're based in).

I'm finding it a little difficult to break into. If anyone has any hints, tips or ideas then give me a shout.

Depends on exactly what you want to do - virtually all the transport consultancy firms have sustainable travel teams that advise on walking and cycling as well as public transport generally. Local authorities have similar roles but have cut back considerably in recent years - Local Transport Today is a place to look - its job website is https://www.jobs-in-transport.com/

Thank you, this is really useful. I will take a good look this afternoon.

Ideally I want to work as an education officer for heritage attractions or some sort of community engagement for a heritage railway or a member of ATOC.

That's a very specific plan and you might be limiting your options too much.

Not every organisation has a 'sustainability department' but there are lots of jobs where sustainable development is involved.

Maybe better to focus on how you can deploy your skills/experience and how you want to work (meeting people? working with the public? desk based? travelling around? abroad?) rather than one or two specific jobs?

You might want to join up with the CIHT as a free student member as well.
