Operative Experience

Hello,
I've tired many times to apply for operative roles and never get to the second/interview stage and I've ran out of ideas as to what else I can do to get anymore relevant experience. Can anyone possibly give any pointers to help me try at least to get an interview.

I've also noticed that in the desirable criteria section that it mentions if you hold or working towards a relevant subject, what subject is it talking about exactly and is it actually essential be to try and get some technical qualifications to help

some may disagree, but I took my dads old school advice by going to the depot local to me where I wanted to work and speaking to the manager in person with regards to jobs, I was sick at failing at other depots, I applied all over, anyway.. cut a long story short when the next 3 positions arose you guessed it, I bagged a interview and got the job.

4/5 years later I've since moved on up to another department but loving it.

In my opinion, exactly what was said above is a good idea. The thing is now, competition is rife out there so you have to go above and beyond

I've been applying for works delivery off track/ delivery track. I currently work in a warehouse, although my experience wont exactly be rail oriented I assume because I do alot of manual labour that it would help in some way

I always figured you weren't allowed into the depots unless you do work there for security issues etc. no?

I get that, but the yard I visited wasn’t gated/ restricted I could simply park up and go in which I did,

I understand it may be different for you, but if you can, do it !!

Same situation as myself Edward - I have 10+ years railway operative experience and can't get an interview either.
