Does anyone know the reason for the problems on the Sleaford - Skegness line this evening? it just says operating incident as the cause on rail enquiries!

Had a relative tell me it's taken her nearly 3 hours to get from Sleaford to Skegness with buses involved replacing cancelled trains!!

Many thanks and apologies if its already been covered but I could not see it elsewhere

'Operating incident', as a term for public consumption, covers all sorts of eventualities from a wrong route to a derailment, with a run-through being somewhere above the middle of that scale!

Surely you would have had to have SPADDED to run through a set of points?

Not necessarily - could equally result from being talked past a signal at danger or (less likely) the points being moved in front of the train after the signal has been replaced to danger (whether behind the train or causing a former Cat 'B' SPAD). Note that I'm not speculating on the cause of this particular one!

Not at all. These days a SPAD is only classed as a SPAD where the signalling system was working correctly and there was no reason for the train not to stop at the red, ie. the old CAT A definition. Now, CAT B, C and D SPADs are classed as "Operating Incidents," along with all manner of other things. Whilst it might have been a Cat A, there is no reason to believe that it was one over any other scenario.

Seems to have been a few problems down the branch these last few weeks, i was on 156415 on 2S08 Skegness-Nottingham near Aslockton yesterday and the emergency brakes were applied. The guard said the driver had gone through a red over the tannoy...
