Can't think of a much simpler layout than that at Bryn.
Ince Moss Jn is the nearest set of points.
Maybe an electrification construction train/road-railer?

If it is the MWEPs that have run away, then there have been a few of these incidents recently. Sure there was one at Glasgow Queen Street which ran for a few miles downhill.

I understood it was the other way round but I'm sure an RAIB comment will clear up the circumstances in due course when they commence the investigation.

Certainly good news that nobody was injured as a result.

The wiring train was split in two as is normal, but then one of the portions somehow ran away and collided with two RRVs further up the line. No injuries reported but a few cases of shock as you would expect. Speeds supposedly reached up to 25mph so rather lucky really.

I just been told the following:

A track maintenance machine had crashed into 2 cherry pickers in the early hours of this morning... Brakes had failed on the train, causing the crash. Crew members thought to have jumped out.
