Opening date and name for Thameslink box?

While digging around FCC's shiny new website I found this page, which appears to indicate that the new station under St Pancras will be branded "St Pancras International", and will open on Sunday 9 December 2007. King's Cross Thameslink will close on Saturday 8 December 2007.

This could be a marketing person spouting drivel, but it seems likely to be the truth. It seems to imply that the current 5 minute walk is some sort of arduous expedition and nobody coming from the GN route would have previously contemplated using the interchange.

Sounds like marketing drivel, I certainly got the impression it was always going to be called Midland Road.

I doubt it will ditch the name Kings Cross entirely, unless the underground station is to change its name as well?

The underground is already called "Kings Cross St Pancras". Putting Kings Cross into the name of the new station doesn't make sense as it is underneath St Pancras. The name of King's Cross main line station won't be changing in a hurry.

You try doing that from KC/SP to KCM when you're drunk. That incline feels like you're climbing Everest !

I suggested that they employ a fleet of golf buggies but the FCC staff didn't seem to find that amusing ! :???:

MML Staff have been told St. Pancras Thameslink, but i'm going to expect it's just going to be branded as St. Pancras international, as:

Well, having been down to the new station, I can say the Thameslink station is directly benith St. Pancras International, and to get to Kings Cross you'd have to go via the St Pancras concourse anyway.

I believe that FCC tried to remove the Thameslink suffixes briefly, but were reminded that it was an utterly stupid thing to do. I suspect that they'll take the opportunity to get rid of one. And an International suffix makes it sound important.

Surely St. P. ML will become St P International too, considering they're getting the Eurostars? Also, will the FCC plats be counted as a seperate station or part of St P. (e.g. Waterloo E letters platforms, seperate from Waterloo ML).

The signs on the MML platforms already read 'St Pancras International', even though Eurostar hasn't starting running there yet. It's an interesting question about the platform numbers. They will be probably be numbered separately, though as it will all be part of the same complex, it would probably less confusing to have them as a continuation like at Paris Gare du Nord, where the platform numbers get up into at least the 30s due to the low level platforms.

I'm guessing it will be linked to the underground by tunnel, but to be honest, it's quicker to walk overground from KX Thameslink to KX Mainline!

Pentonville Road is easily the most dangerous part of my commute. Bendy buses (and even some rigit ones) foul the pedestrian crossing at King's Cross Bridge, leading to chaos as everyone attempts to squeeze throught the couple of feet between buses when the green man is on.

I am hopeful that there will be a set of stairs or other suitcase unfriendly method of access to the new platforms. KCM is something of a minefield of massive suitcases, and sometimes elaborate acrobatics is required to get to the platforms in a sane time.

Waterloo doesn't have platform letters instead of numbers. Waterloo East does though.
