Its an online flight tracking site which uses ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) data from planes collected by recievers that people have connected up to the system. It can track any flight, anywhere as long as the plane is fitted with a transmitter (most modern commercial aircraft do) and it's in range of someone with a reciever who is online. It not only shows the position the plane was 5 mins ago, but it's heading, altitude and groundspeed, plus the flight number, aswell as the unique code of the transmitter that can show which plane it is. If a reciever is located near to the airport (since the signals work line of sight) it can show planes from takeoff to touchdown. Particularly interesting watching around Heathrow, due to the large amount of traffic. Currently it's got an American Airlines holding at Ockham and 4 planes on the glideslope for 27R. Its particluarly interesting watching it whilst listening to the airband.
