Open return to London Zone 6

Is there such a thing? I ask because I am about to go on a two-week research trip, and will be flying out of Heathrow. I'd rather not get tied down to one particular route, so is there a ticket that will allow me to travel out and back from any station in Zone 6. In practice, this means going to Hayes and getting an extension on Heathrow Connect one way, and taking the Piccadilly Line the other way (I'm yet to decide which way round).

On the other hand, would two singles be cheaper?

I think your best bet would be to buy an open return from your origin station to London Terminals, if one exists, then overdistance excess the relevent portions to Heathrow Rail and Zones U1256 Londn. The excesses should be half the difference between the through fare and the fare originally paid. I don't know whether the booking ofices at Heathrow can issue excesses, but there is a Heathrow Express member of staff on this message board who may know.
It may be that for the Piccadilly line portion the Oyster single fare is cheaper than the excess, or for the Heathrow Connect portion there is a cheap way of splitting.

Thanks, clagmonster. I might give that a try. I don't think HC accept Railcards on the train (I'm still just young enough for a YPR - probably should have mentioned that) but most likely I'll be going back on the Picc anyway, and should have plenty of time at Paddington on the way out.

Hello! Whether or not it is too late for this, I thought I'd reply just for the record. I have no idea about issuing excesses so it's safe to say that we wouldn't be able to do these at the HEx ticket offices.

That's right. The CSAs on HC will not accept a railcard for discount on the train. Therefore, I'd suggest you pay a visit to Paddington main ticket office if possible and ask them if they can sort out an excess with discount etc.

Thanks, I'm leaving tomorrow, or today now. I'll try to get right through to U1 if possible, otherwise it'll need to be sorted out at King's Cross. Anyway, it should work out fairly well, it usually does, and the most important thing is getting there by 14:25, one our before departure.
