Yesterday was a bad day to travel on the railway for me.

Cancellations, delays and missing tickets were all part of my rubbish journey between Preston and Huddersfield.

But - has anyone experienced missing tickets before? I shall explain.

I booked three hours before I was suppose to travel between Manchester and Huddersfield on a seperate ticket. And I allocated Manc Picc as my pick up point using Virgin FastTicket machines.

I bought seperate tickets for Preston - Manc Picc (don't ask why) I ended up paying more than usual - I mugged myself - despite being knowledgeable about fares.

However, when it come to picking up my tickets from Manc Picc - they never appeared - I put in the piece of plastic, and then the code - but there was an error. It asked me to refer back to the reference etc.

I went to the desk, they couldn't help me (not their fault)

I did travel with TPE, but booked from Virgin Trains.co.uk

Everytime I travel, I always book online - never a problem, until now.

So, has this happened to anyone before?

Did you definately get a confirmation screen and email (guessing you did if you have the booking reference)? If so I'd fire off an email or letter to Virgin asking for your money back.

Maybe the ticket notification hadn't reached the ticket machine by the time you were going to pick it up? I know they say allow two hours, but the system could have been slow.

Of course you should be given a refund to be placed in the position you would have been in had you been able to collect your tickets; I'm just trying to see if there's a possible explanation.

I booked with VirginTrains online for a TPE service, and it was a 2 hours wait they said. I cleared it all,

and the booking reference was up to scratch.

My friends are investigating where it went!

I've found it can be very quick - I think the time they quote is just 'padding'. Updates to the database are probably done every few minutes...

I've tried after an hour with no luck - fortunately it wasn't my only opportunity to pick the tickets up.

What TOC is this? The quickest I've done it has been 30 minutes for an East Coast ticket from their own site.

WebTIS powered sites tend to be available for collection immediately. I booked a couple of First Advances with East Coast when they did their 1/3rd off offer last year, strolled over to a TVM within about 30 seconds of the booking being confirmed and collected them with no problems.

Trainline powered sites, however, take at least one hour, usually two, and I've heard of people having to wait four hours.

Cheers,

Barry
