just wondering if anyone else got word back from northern about there test, i was knocked back so thats me done for six months, anybody got thru ?
Morning all
First post and all that!
I also got a "no thanks" from this yesterday.
I've been talent pooled for the Vic conductor role for 6 months too but like thomas69 I also have the Picc conductor role at "new submitted application" stage. Not sure if the talent pooling from the Vic role applies to both or not.
Think i'll give it a week then contact them if heard nothing.
Pretty gutted about failing the DSI as really want to get into the rail industry. Still, will try again in 6 months.
Best of luck to those who got through this time
WizardDave;
Northern have been pretty good at keeping in touch with the state of my applications with them, I'm in the talent pool for Man Pic conductor, & had my application re-submitted to the recent Man Pic conductor post, as I questioned with Northern why my application status didn't change. I was just told that my application has been re-submitted for consideration, so fingers crossed there.
Things do tend to take an age with railway jobs & shortlisting, to-date I've got applications with FTPE since December, who just chuck out a standard response email when you ask why it's taking soooo long! Metrolink took around 9 weeks to shortlist 1500 candidates!
It is very clear that with a railway job, the conditions of pay & extras like massively reduced rail travel etc. the world & it's wife are applying for jobs that a few years ago they wouldn't have touched with a barge pole. I think we've just got to grin & bear it!![]()
I got knocked back for the Leeds role and passed for Manchester!?!?
I'm nearly 100% certain I answered the same questions with the same answers whilst doing the DSI test but hey...1 out of 2 ain't bad! The email stated a 4 week waiting period to find out if I've been shortlisted (again) for the Interview stage!
I'm doing all I can to prepare for this so hopefully they'll give me a shot! I'll keep you all updated....and remember keep trying! Don't let it get you down if you didn't pass, just use it to make yourself more determined! That's what I'll do regardless of any successful/unsuccessful applications!
Good luck to you all!
did you apply at the same time? i failed man vic but still have blackpool on, thought it would be an automatic fail for both??

Yeah I applied for them and did the DSI tests within minutes of each other!?
I still have yet to hear back about the Liverpool Lime St positions too! Has anyone else applied for Lime St? Have you heard back yet?
There's a tendency to over think these test... Probably due to the fact that nobody wants to fail, and that you never find out the outcome other than pass or fail.
Who knows what they are looking for... the score is out of 100 and there is a benchmark so there must be a person specific or a strategy even if that equals the most obvious .... just be true and honest..

I'm NOT a raving mad lunatic ..... or ..... I really want to to be a train driver.
There's no right or wrong but by going with one you imply the other.. or do you score a point for one and not the other.. frustrating isn't it!
Let's have a pole of those who passed and failed.
Were you A.) Logical or B.) Honest C.) A bit of both..
I failed I don't think I was 100% honest!
Since failing I have thought a lot about the test!
It is used by a number of companies so not all the questions will be specific to one roll i.e train driver so obviously I like working on my own... I guess if it's not "more like me" than the other answer it's the wrong answer regardless of the final outcome.. in other words the right kind of people will or should always get through.
Pretty sure that I put that I work better as part of a team though I was worried about this one for the reasons you mention - spending 90% of my time on my own.@W230 How did you answer the "Team Work" questions did you opt for the I work better on my own?
