Online booking -rail pickup wrong station specified

I've selected the wrong station to pick up a ticket booked online through firstgreatwestern. I can't pick it up in Bristol as I'm in London and the ticket is for wednesday. Can I pick it up at other ticket machines even though I specified bristol?

I'd suggest ringing FGW in the morning & explaining the situation, see if they can sort it for you.

Hi; welcome to the forums!

This seems to depend on how you're picking the tickets up. According to thetrainline's website, you can uplift your tickets at any machine listed on the website (therefore, you should be able to get them). Remember to take your card and reference number! And, to confirm, the First Great Western ticket's site is operated using thetrainline technology.

I know how easy it is to make this mistake, however; I've done it in the past for uplifting at the ticket office. Thankfully, Glasgow Queen Street and Glasgow Central aren't as far away as London and Bristol!

Yup - take the booking ref and proof of payment to any manned National Rail station, and they can print them off for you.

If you asked to pick it up at a ticket machine in Bristol, it SHOULD be accessible from any ticket machine in the UK. Using the payment card (for verification) and the reference number given for use on the machine, you could print it in theory in Bath, Hereford, Carlisle, Leeds, Inverness or even Wick (if it had a ticket machine)...

Thanks a lot for the responses. Seems easy enough to resolve - I hoped it would be but was still a little bit worried. I'll head to my local station tomorrow to pick the ticket up. It was through force of habit having picked up quite a few tickets recently from Bristol TM while at uni in birstol that led me to select it without thinking. Any station with a Fastticket machine will work. Which is probably almost all Great Western stations, apart from minor ones with no ticket issuing facilities.

This isn't actually correct as many Southern Fastticket machines aren't connected the the CRS and thus won't issue bookings made online. This however is the only TOC I've encountered that hasn't connected its machines to the CRS.

Most of SWT's machines also do not issue online bookings (except those at a small number of stations). However, they plan to introduce the functionality to all machines by next month.

Question I have, though, is if you can pick up your tickets from a machine at any station with ticket on departure functionality then why do you have to specify a station to pick the tickets up at? :?

Apparently it's so you don't choose a station which does not have a fastticket machine

Surely the way around that is to give a list of stations you could pick the tickets up from rather than making you select one. Then again I can see the logic to both sides.

Another question I have without taking this too far off topic is if say NXEC allowed me to use a Visa Electron in making a ticket purchase (strictly speaking they don't accept it but it works if you select 'Visa') and I chose ToD. I then go to the station and the machine doesn't accept Electron as a form of payment, will it accept it for identification and allow me to get my tickets?

It's for identification only so yes, if they did accept them it would work.

You used to be able to use any card - which meant you could book tickets for friends easily. But that was changed due to that ticket scam in Manchester that made the news about a year or so ago.

i just get FGW to send them in the post much easier for me
