Hello,

I am going for a position that seems to be new ‘On Train Skills & Competency Manager’. I cannot seem to find any information or anyone who is currently in the role at LNER. If anyone is kind enough to give some information and what the role entails, that would be greatly appreciated.

Things such as:

1: Day to day duties in the role?

2: What is expected of you?

I would like to be in a good position to articulate myself and talk about my transferrable skills.

Job description gives a summary but any other insight is welcomed.

If it's a new position, no one is going to know the answers to these questions, except the person who invented the position.
It sounds like some restructuring exercise, so possibly for staff being displaced from current positions

I did think about that, however, I just thought I can try just in case someone might be able to provide some information.

The On Train Skills & Competency Manager at LNER in a nutshell deal with the competency of the train managers and onboard staff. Like what most TOCS seem to be doing these days, old management roles now split into two, one manager that deals with the admin side per se and the other manager who deals with the competency side. So at LNER you have the Customer Experience Duty Managers who the deal with the day to day stuff and who the onboard crew report to and then you have the On Train Skills & Competency Manager who manages the competency side of things.

Thank you soo much, this did clarify a few questions in my mind. On the day, there will be a ‘task’ and then competency based interview. Any idea on the best way to prepare or would be more of a take it as it comes on the day?
