Yeah, I've found Cologne Hbf to be an absolute nightmare for late notice platform alterations as soon as there's any disruption (which is most days!) for example
It was indeed Cologne that I was recently caught out at....

Well the timetable itself cannot be "guaranteed", but that doesn't stop it from being made available.

I suppose it could be but how valuable is that for the majority of people? Would many people really benefit? If alterations are made >X% of the time does it become redundant? Services are often different Monday, Tuesday-Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday too and platforms can change on a weekly basis even from that at busy stations.

I think a lot of people would prefer experiencing the last-minute scrum less than 100% of the time compared to the current offering of 100% of the time.

The final train call at Kings Cross appears to be set to automatically broadcast 3 minutes prior to departure, giving barely enough time to get from the concourse to the more distant platforms, let alone along the platform and into the awaiting train. Always think 5 minutes prior to departure would be a more reasonable final call.
As for lack of platforms, they really should consider reinstating platform 11 and the former platform 10 even if it can only provide 6 car length capacity.
With LNER, Lumo, Hull trains and Grand Central operating services with 5 car units, the open access operators would be far better concentrated on dedicated platforms 9 to 11 freeing up capacity in the main trainshed. And GN could even use this additional capacity when Moorgate is closed.

Most of the time it shouldn’t be last minute but some stations certainly have an…interesting reputation.

The key word here being “final”. Three minutes is standard across the board.

On the DLR elevated stations the ONLY announcement at entrance level about an approaching train does not give enough time to get up the stairs and catch it :)

Why would you be waiting at street level though?

Street level? I know someone who used to live in a flat overlooking a DLR station and they could look out the window to see when to go to the platform..

I too imagined that Igot caught out at Dortmund Hbf. It seems pandemonium was caused as the announcement was only made by a bloke up a ladder!
This I have yet to see! DB seem to do what they want, when they want. You have no other choice but to use DB
