Evening,
I have recently picked up the notebook and pen after 15/16 years showing no interest. Largely driven by a desire to spend more time with my Dad and my Son who’s interest is beginning to wane.
I will post some of my previous trips as time goes on but yesterday we had a trip by car to Longport, Crewe Electric, Crewe Railway Station, Crewe Gresty Road and Crewe Basford Hall.
any feedback is gratefully received if you want more or less detail and I’ll sprinkle in some photos too.
We arrived at Longport at around 9am to find 56077, 56032, 66048 and 56009.
We also spotted what I believe was unnumbered 69003, a Shunter and a green painted 66.
Mindful of time we cracked on to Crewe Electric. The original plan was to go by train from Crewe to Chester but with a bus replacement service in place that idea was put to bed.
The view from Wistaston Road Business Park allowed us to see
90032, 90030, 90017, 92016, 67011, 90038, 90025, 92009, 92007, 90031, 92031. 66302 worked off the depot towards Crewe Station.
We then drove to the main entrance to see 90036 and 67005.
Having exhausted our options at CE we moved on to Crewe Railway Station. The staff at the barriers were friendly and allowed us to enter so we wondered down Platform 12 to see 57309 on thunderbird duties.
We stayed for an hour and witnessed 390123, 350123, 350266, 350105,
350123, 350266, 350105, 350117, 350101, 350258, 390155, 390045, 323229, 153327, 153323, 156411, 156414, 390152, 175109, 390124, 158839, 390016 and 390107 on various passenger duties.
Stored MK3 coaches 41117, 44047, 42220, 42100, 41063 stood in the old Parcels platform headed by 86101.
On the former Crewe Diesel Depot we spied 47593, D1944 / 47501 and carriage 5991.
One lucky surprise was 68007, 68033, 9508, 9506, 68001 and 88010 heading north in convoy.
From the station we drove down to Crewe Gresty Road (a depot that didn’t exist in my day) and a walk up to the gates presented us with 57002, 68015, 88008, 57308, 37423, 37069 and 37558 / 37424.
Our final stop of the day took us to Basford Hall for a mega haul of numbers including 90048, 90003, 90043, 66571, 66503, 90008, 90007, 66548, 66532, 86622, 90010, 66744, 70006, 70011, 66506, 66744, 90014, 90045, 70003, 08691, 86638, 86609, 86628, 86614, 86612, 86627, 86610, 90050, 86251, 66956, 66555, 47830, 66589, 88001, 86632, 86613, 86607, 86608, 86637, 86639, 86604, 86605 and 66614.
BH has changed a lot since the early nineties but it was great to see a number of 86s and 90s. I only realised afterwards that we had seen every Class 86 in existence with the exception of one (anyone know where it is??).
Unfortunately due to a prior commitment we had to end our day here and head back to the East Midlands but we all had a great time in Cheshire and can’t wait to go back again soon.

It looks like you've had a great start there, and your Merseyrail trip has got me wanting to go back there!
