Scotrail has said that they are extending their smartcard scheme outside of Glasgow-Edinburgh. I guess stations to Dundee are getting them next.

My main journey is GLQ - EDB for which I use flexipasses, though I travel around Scotland quite a lot. Will the machines make a difference? I've not seen any publicity at all.

Except you can't use them at many of those stations, a fine example is Mansfield Woodhouse where the reader was stolen many moons ago (along with the CCTV) and never replaced.
