Oldest interior on a mainline train

Des anyone know some old interiors of trains which still run around the UK mainline? By this I mean old seat covers/ carpets etc which have been the same for years.
I'd just be interested to know if there are any particularly old ones out there!

London Midland's Class 321s and a very small number of Greater Anglia's 321s (although these may have all been refurbished now) still retain the old NSE interiors they were built with:

yeah I asked in another thread... any plans for LM to actually refurb the 321s if they are doing the 150s.. and did the 150s gain new seat covers?

almost all Greater Anglia trains have very old interiors for example the old FGE interior on the 321s, the old WAGN interior on the 317/6s, the old anglia railways interior on the 170s and 153s (minus carpets now),

can anyone tell me if the original WAGN livery (red and white) was incorporated into the interiors of any trains and did it change to purple when National Express took over?

From what I can remember of WAGN; the 317/6 were painted in the original White/Grey/Yellow/Blue/Red Doors livery when refurbished, and they were given the same Grey/Green and Maroon interior colour scheme that the 365's were built with. The 313's were also given new seats with this pattern at this time (around 1998 I think). The 313's and 315's were given plain white and later purple versions of WAGN livery when NX took over, some with advertising liveries. Many of the 317/1's were painted Purple but retained NSE interiors. Then of also course the 317/7's were created from a refurb of old 317/1's! It's hard to imagine these 317/7's now all sitting out of use!

The 317/1's still with First Capital Connect the interior does not look too dissimilar from NSE days, albeit with similar blue FCC seat covers and some of the old brown bits painted over in white!

also if there are still any unrefurbished 314's, they have a pretty hard worn and dated interior. I rode them around the catchcart circle last year and it was like stepping back into the 80's.

Northerns ex central 158/8s still have regional railways floor carpet - which presumably dates back to build in 1989-1992. Also 5 142's (003/013/029/030/067) still have their original 1986 brown floor! Their ex-FNW 153s also still have RRNW carpets/seat covers, I believe their refurb was done in 1995/6!

Quite a few operators still use IC70 seats in their Mark 3s.

Even Chiltern's Mark 3s still have IC70 seats in them, albeit massively upgraded

I'd love to see those Network Southeast seats on those 321s but I don't know if there are any left now! I do love the old interiors as a rail enthusiast but I bet many commuters hate them! The interiors on my local train the SWT Class 159 date from 2000 but they're pretty normal feeling really. I like some of the interesting colour schemes like the WAGN and Anglia, hope they keep some for the future!

There are about three left but they will be refurbished by the end of the year. Im a driver for GA so regularly see these units.

Oh yeah, they've been refurbished since then.

Mind you, possibily one of the oldest has to be the London Midland Class 150s. Ok, so Ccentral Trains replaced the lino & seat covers, but little else. Hence the lovely former feature of several of the units, with there ex BR Buff*, Brown & Orange interiors.

*Just had the idea come into my mind, that with some modern Interior designers - the colour named Buff would surely be renamed to some fanciful name these days.

Oh and if i can sneak London Underground units into this, thelt museum's 1938 stock?

Reminds me of Friday evening 'extras' which would run from St Pancras comprised of Mk1 compartment stock in the early 1980's. Not only were they museum pieces (even then) but the dust when you smacked the seats was something else! Memories!

Some of the Northern 142s and 150s contain the original interiors from the early 1980s with just a repaint and new seat covers. A few of the 142s contain the original brown floor covering, while some of the ex-LM 150s contain the original internal paint.

The NSE interior on the 321/4s isn't quite original, as when they were built they had white grab poles and grab handles. Silverlink painted them yellow but didn't do anything else!

Only a handful of the 317/6s still retain their full WAGN interiors, those painted in ONE livery. The 317/6s painted in Polar Bear livery have a new carpet, but all except for 653, 655 and 658 still have their WAGN moquette (the design of which dates back to the swansong of NSE, as previously mentioned the 365s had it from new).

No, despite being reliveried, the only internal change was a minor detailing strip between two panels that has gone from brown to a lilac colour for some reason ( Lilac ≠ London Midland colours. ).

Also the interior walls at the vehicle ends have been repainted since NSE days. They used to feature murals by Eddie Pond:

Granted things like seat moquette, interior paint & flooring have been changed but it is still overwhelmingly retro.

What about tube stock. C stock on the circle and Hammersmith surely must be getting on. Iirc they were refurbished in early 90s along with the 72 stock

Both of those had different seats fitted during the early 2000s. The C Stock were given different moquette (the design they have now) and deeper seats, the 1972 Stock had their armrests removed, got different moquette (again their current design) and the seats became a lot harder.
