Well there is the wayback machine aka Internet archive and being as there are a lot of people that are in to trains I was thinking someone somewhere might have taken the pdf type and made it an interactive journey planner

It's from a time when Sprinters were still shiny and new, and denotes that the journey is booked as one.
Shiny, new, sprinter - three words I have never associated before
Interesting though the timetables posted at #10 are, they are for after the line via Sale closed. If that is specifically what you are looking for I think you need to be looking at c1988?

I'm assuming the line via Sale was still open at the time of publication, as it shows Sunday services calling at the station. Having said that, it wouldn't be beyond they realms of possibility for the timetable to not reflect a lines closure, and for it to be later included the often quite lengthy timetable ammendments booklet.

1989 was the first timetable year that Chester services went via Stockport, but not on Sundays. In 1988 the services all went via Sale. In both years the EMU service to Altrincham still ran; Metrolink was approved in 1988 but didn’t start running until 1992.
That's essentially correct. Manchester->Chester DMU services, except on Sundays, stopped going via Sale, and were then re-routed via Stockport/Baguley, with effect from Monday 15th May 1989. The Sundays service was similarly re-routed from Sunday 20th May 1990. Manchester->Altrincham EMU rail services, via Sale, ended Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24th December 1991.
Usually Class 304 (very occasionally Class 310 back in the 1970s and from the mid 1980s onwards, Class 303), this during the period of 25kV AC operation on the Altrincham line which lasted between May 1971 and December 1991, i.e. from Altrincham into Manchester Oxford Road / Manchester Piccadilly and beyond.

Classes 101, 104 and 108 back in the day certainly. More recently classes 142, 150 and 156. Also Classes 158 and 175 at times. Maybe others. What time span are you looking at, as DMUs still go to Chester via Knutsford?
just around the time the 1980's in recent years I've seen the 150 and 156 run by Northern and I think I've seen a 175 by TFW don't know when the 142 last ran on that line.
