Old Sheffield Buses

How come on the route I catch there are some of the oldest buses in Sheffield.

I was taking to one of the drivers and he said whenever they get newer buses the old ones go on my route.

Can the age be good for the Carbon Footprint, they must guzzle masses of fuel never mind the amount of times they break down.

How can it be good when you have the Hybrid buses and then the old ones bad for the environment.

Your route must not make any money, its a simple as that.

They wont have enougn new buses to cover all routes so the buses will be cascaded from the top down, the routes which make the least money (or suffer the most vandalism) will get the oldest buses.

If they put the new buses on your route and the old buses on the routes that had the newer buses how would that alter the carbon footprint etc.

Just because something is old it doesnt mean it will guzzle fuel, the newer buses will be much heavier than the older ones and so will probably use more fuel but because of all the addons the emissions might be a little less but not much, my 20 year old car gives me a real world 60mpg, show me a modern car that will return the same!

When I lived in Wolverhampton we always got the worst nails TWM could provide, presumably due to the local scrotes wrecking them. Generally things would get thoroughly worn out in Birmingham then make their way outwards. Only recently has Wolves started getting new buses outright.
