Old rolling stock parked at Hellifield and rusting away

I used the special train organised by Northern Rail hauled by Tornado to and from Appleby last Thursday. I couldn't help but notice the old disused rolling stock parked (or dumped???) in the sidings at Hellifield. They seem to have been used at one time for moving mail.They are an ugly eyesore !! They are not good for the S&C line!! Whats the history about them ? Who owns them ? Can they be moved and scrapped ? Rant over, thank you x

Apparently the guy who owns WCRC put the buildings up with the intention of overhauling locos and rolling stock there. Word has it that, typical of him, he didn't have proper planning permission or he did something that hadn't got approval so it has been left to ruin for a few years now.
I agree that it is an eyesore but wouldn't it be nice if something could be made of it. Hellifeld is a great location for anything steam

IIRC the Royal Mail vehicles at Hellifield were purchased to provide spares for WCRC's mk1 fleet - they will presumably be broken up in due course, either where they are or at Carnforth.

Go to Carnforth if you want to see depressingly rusty stock, some real gems (and more mail vans) rusting away - doesn't help WCRC's image.

Since most people don't know who WCRC are (most tours they supply are run by promoters) and don't realise that Carnforth is the WCRC depot (they don't advertise it) I'm sure they are not really concerned.
