Old Railway posters

So i was just watching flog it (stop laughing at the back) and the old fella at the end had all original railway advertising posters.. They all went for a fair few quid till the last one was a southport one which went for £2200 on its own. In total they sold 29 of them for a total of £8 K

probably on iplayer later/tomorrow and is the last bit should anyone be sad enough to want to watch

But wasn't the Southport poster rather more exceptional than the other posters? It had more value to a collector of this type of railayana than all of the other ones that the man had brought to show the expert to give a suggested valuation in the first place. Railway art posters if they are ORIGINAL works have become rather a more up-market item these days.

Never be surprised what people will pay to obtain something that they see as improving the quality of their collection. Look at the prices paid for high quality art at the leading international salerooms.

Modelling and painting is good fun. I've done a few Boeing's and a couple of fighter jets but never a train. I'll try one day!

You can see copies of many of these 1920-1938 period posters for sale at the National Railway Museum. What many people do not realise is there is a specific acknowleged entity for Railway Poster art. Unfortunately, the younger generation of railway enthusiasts never saw the days of steam, when this was the prime source of locomotive power that powered the railways of Britain. Preservation railways can only give a brief glimpse of what this entailed. In those days, to stand on the platforms at Crewe, Doncaster, Cardiff, Reading, etc, gave you a view of through service running. I am old enough to have been on all of these in the late 1950's until the end of main-line steam.

The LNER and the LMS, in particular. commissioned some very talented professional artists to create some of the posters that are so well known today. If, by chance, an ORIGINAL art-work for one of the more famous posters actually came onto the market, the price paid would be amazing.
