Old Rail Timetables

Hi!

I'd quite like to see how trains ran in the 90s - is there a website or archive somewhere that allows me to see old timetables? I've tried google but really don't know how to word my search, and I'm also having doubts about whether I've placed this in the correct forum.

I dont know of any online, but I have a collection of public and wtts from the Eastern region from early 60s to late 90s.

2nd hand book sales at junk yards/preservation sites can be a goldmine for such stuff

You can regulary find old train timetables for sale on ebay. i recently purchased an intercity crosscountry timetable dated for 1980/1990, quite easy to see that services were better then than they are now

Surgest some library in London will have them,it was usual for Librarys to
have them for reference prior to private companies taking over.

I agree with 'Great Eastern.' I bought an old timetable from a large collection at a preserved railway some years ago, and sold it for a nice profit on eBay!

I see you're from London (though there is a lot of it!)
When I worked in London, I bought several old passenger timetables at...
1) a shop just off Charing Cross Road, on a street alongside the Wyndham Theatre, but I think they've moved one street further south. I THINK it's called Motorworld, or something like that.
2) a shop called THE SMOKEBOX right next door to Cromwell Road Bus Station in Kingston-upon Thames, though someone told me that it had shut,
3) a bookshop that specialises in Railway and War books at FALCONWOOD PARADE - number 6 I think. It's in S.E. London, on the B16 bus route.
I bought a mixture of timetables, e.g. 1975 full timetable, 1971 Western Region, 1962 Northeastern, 1960 LMS and a 1956 Scottish Region. Assuming shops 2) and 3) are still open (I went there in 2002 & 2003), you should be lucky.

Nope, that definitely shut down as London United (now Transdev) bought the premises and use that as a drivers rest facility. Whether or not it relocated elsewhere I can't tell you for sure..

I didn't ever consider having to purchase a tangible copy - I'd hoped the internet could be my answer lol, but I guess this is the price I pay for curiosity. Thanks again for your (plural) help
