Does anyone here know where I can find information about the history of the line which ran through the town of Descartes in France?

There is little I can find with an internet search. For example, this:
does not even link to a Wikipedia article on the line itself.

The little information I have about it is that it was not running passenger services in 1987 (I visited the place then) and by now the tracks have been lifted in places, replaced by a cycle path/footpath.

If you can read French it is on Monsieur Wikipedia’s site as Ligne de Porte-de-Piles a Argenton sur Creuse. Closed passengers 1940, goods traffic ceased south of La Haye-D. (only to Tournon-Saint-Martin) in 2005: this section was closed in 2014 and lifted in 2017. Supposedly still open to the industrial estate in La Haye-D. to serve grain silos.

Thanks for both of those replies.
Using my schoolboy French, I actually came across that Wikipedia page, but did not recognise it as the line in question as I was unsuccessfully trying to match it to places on a map.

Problem solved. Many thanks.

Slightly OT but don't forget if you use Chrome or Edge, the browsers do translate to English.

In Chrome, it usually appears as an icon next to the bookmark star in the address bar - if it doesn't do it, you can right click and "Translate to English" should appear as an option.
