Old Laws concerning the Railway...

Just a quick question here. I remember reading in an old book a few years ago (Can't remember which one) that "Anyone who fits flanged wheels to their car has the right to drive on any British railway". hock:

Now...If such a wierd legal provision ever existed; Has the law been repealed at all, or can it still be exercised by members of the general public? hock:

Given the numerous regulations and training required nowadays before entering railway property (Except passenger stations), how would one go about registering their vehicle for such use (It'd probabally need a class and unit number after all!) and exercising such a law properly and in a safe manner?

I imagine that even if there is such a law, in practice they would have some way of saying "no". Insurance, or H&S, perhaps. You may have a right to, but only if certain things are complied with.

It's probably alright to do it hock: I believe we still have the death penalty (in Scotland at least) for Piracy... just something they haven't bothered to revoke as of yet.

It may still be written into the law, but it couldn't happen, as the HRA prohibits it.

It was removed with the HRA - the HRA revokes all laws which were in violation of it, hence why so many affected acts have 1998 revisions to make them HRA compliant.

My school is obviously trying to make an anti-death-penalty point then :roll: Thanks. Even if it were doable, of course, no judge would actually do it and, of they did, they'd be a bit stuck for gallows...

The death penalty for any offece has been long abolished - and hopefully it'll stick
