Morning all,

Hoping someone can assist.

Back on 16th Jul 1988 I caught 31250 on the Great Yarmouth to Norwich leg of the Great Yarmouth to Liverpool Street train. It left about lunchtime. We didn't change at Norwich and 86240 took over from Norwich to Liverpool Street.

It's a long shot but anyone know what the Train ID would be please?

Many thanks in advance.

You need to look around for a 'Working TimeTable' (WTT) for that period - they sometimes appear at model railway exhibitions/swapmeets/other railway events. These have rather more detail that the public timetables, including the train ID. They tended to be split up into various areas. A less common alternative is a 'Departure Book'; these were prepared for the larger stations (Norwich, perhaps?) and listed all the trains that left the station and the platform they were assigned to leave from, destinations, IDs etc.

The headcode you want is 1P45 1113 Great Yarmouth - Liverpool Street. The excellent Railgen Archive website has 31250 on it on 16/7/88. Hope this helps

The Excellent http://railgenarchive.co.uk/sc/diarymenu.php has 31250 as having worked 1P45 1113 Great Yarmouth - London Liverpool Street between Great Yarmouth - Norwich on that day, so I would presume that was the train. For some reason, this comes up for the single loco search, but not the listing for that day.

This train is not listed for 86240 and the few workings in 1988 shown for that loco are on the West Coast. I don't know whether 86/2s used interchangeably at that time, perhaps someone else here can help confirm?

Hope this helps...

Thanks John, I was hoping someone would have 1H88 or the likes .

Unfortunately my collection stops at 1H87 :(

Looking at that one, Yarmouth has the following:

1P33 SO 1105 to Liverpool Street.
1P39 SO 1310 to Liverpool Street.

Looking back over the years I have got:

1980/81 Yarmouth - Liverpool Street ran as 1Kxx
1982-86 Yarmouth - Liverpool Street ran as 1Cxx

So possibly 1988 was the same as 1987 and your train would have been a 1Pxx.

Hope this helps somehow.

Edit: beaten to it, wow that's a great website, some good Gen on there!!

I cannot access the Railgenarchive from here (work) so will look when I get home. Sounds like a great source of info. Might clear up a few other things as well.

Double checked my haulage log:
08/07/1988 1P50 LST-NRW = 86243
08/07/1988 1P50 NRW-GYM = 31431

16/07/1988 1P45 GYM-NRW = 31250
16/07/1988 1P45 NRW-LST = 86260.

Thanks for that :)

Thanks to all for the assistance.
